A Series of Unfortunate Events
You would probably be aware of the book series by Lemony Snicket that recently had a live-action adaptation on Netflix with Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf, the main villain in the series. But did you know that there was also a movie adaptation of the first three parts, The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and The Wide Window with Jim Carrey as Count Olaf?
That’s right, Jim Carrey was the villain and even though he might have added a comedic element to the character, the villain was just as menacing as he was in the books. So if you want to look at Jim Carrey taking on a villainous role, then you should definitely check out A Series of Unfortunate Events.
The Mask
1994 was definitely a great year for Jim Carrey. You could say that it was a breakthrough year for Jim Carrey as he did movies back-to-back that proved to be super promising for his career. One of these movies was The Mask, which is just as funny today as it was 30 years ago. We are still in stitches whenever we watch the movie because Jim Carrey really outdid himself with it.
In the movie, his character finds an ancient mask that turns him from a “nice guy” into a mischievous entity. It is the comedic element of the show that made us fall in love with the movie and Jim Carrey’s expressions are enough to make you laugh!
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
When we said 1994 was a great year for Jim Carrey, we actually meant it. That was the year when the iconic Ace Ventura: Pet Detective came out as well and it is the kind of movie that you just CANNOT miss. It is most certainly a must-watch because it is one of Jim Carrey’s best movies. In the movie, Jim Carrey takes on the role of a (you guessed it) Pet Detective who solves the cases of missing animals and pets.
Right before the Super Bowl, he is brought the case of the mascot “Snowflake” who is a Dolphin that has been kidnapped and it is up to Ace to figure out who did it.
The movie is just crazy in general and it has the kind of humor that would have you laughing so much, your tummy would hurt. The movie also has Courteney Cox who was at her prime at the time because of her success in FRIENDS and it is another reason why you can’t miss the movie!
Bruce Almighty
What would it be like if Jim Carrey were God? It would be chaos, right? Well, that is exactly what happens in Bruce Almighty that came out back in 2003. Bruce is a news anchor who has a hard time believing in God and thinks that God has it easy; He just doesn’t want to help Bruce out on purpose. That is when God gives him his own powers and abilities so Bruce would get a taste of what it is like to be God.
After that, havoc ensues as Bruce begins using his powers for selfish motives but the problem starts when actual prayers start coming in and Bruce can’t figure out how to help them all. The movie also stars Jennifer Aniston, which is one of the many reasons that you should watch the movie. The movie also has great comedy since it also stars Steve Carell and it has *that* news scene that we can never forget.
Ending Note
Jim Carrey is no less than a blessing to mankind because he makes us laugh so much. We would be having a hard day and all it would take is a good Jim Carrey movie to uplift our mood. So, if you really want a taste of Jim Carrey’s brilliance, then you should definitely check these movies out!
